OVERVIEW

We received 150 applications and in total 28 CSOs representatives and creatives (14 men and 14 women) were selected to attend, they came from 14 different countries: Yemen, Mexico, US, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Brazil, Jordan, Iraq, Czech Republic, Singapore, Turkey and UK.

Together they tackled topics like the impact of the war in Yemen, internally displaced people in Iraq, migrant domestic workers in Lebanon and the media representation of women MPs in Lebanon.

This was the first time we formalised the Team Leader position and people had to apply for these positions as part of the call for applications. Like at our 2016 sprint, we had a partnership with the UK-based data design studio Beyond Words and its Design Director Michael Brenner attended the workshop as a mentor and trainer. In addition, we had a mentor and trainer for the team leaders and for the sprint in general and that was the Head of Google Campus, Sarah Drinkwater.
